Description of the genus

Trees deciduous. Stipules basally connate. Leaves paripinnate; leaflets in few pairs, opposite, large. Inflorescence panicles, terminal. Flowers large, white, pink or red; calyx with disc produced to the top of the elongated tube, lobes slightly unequal; petals only 1 developed, orbicular with a distinct claw. Fruit pods, large, flat, oblong, somewhat woody. Seeds 1-8 not arillated.

Worldwide: 3 species in South East Asia.

Mozambique: 1 cultivated taxon.
