Rhizome widely creeping, irregularly branched, densely covered with dark hairs and root-like shoots present. Fronds spaced, often distally winged, 2- or 3-pinnatifid, venation anadromous, free, with or without false veinlets. Sori terminal on the veins, solitary at the apex of the ultimate segments, tubular; involucre cup-shaped, usually with a bilabiate mouth, receptacles exserted. Derivation of name: krepis: slipper,manes: cup-shaped; referring to the form of the involucre Worldwide: c. 30 species, palaeotropical and north temperate distribution |
