Description of the genus

Stoloniferous or rhizomatous perennial herbs. Stems erect. Leaves spirally arranged. Inflorescence a terminal thyrse. Flowers actinomorphic or slightly zygomorphic. Sepals 3, free, Petals 3, free. Fertile stamens 6; filaments hairless. Ovary 3-locular. Fruit indehiscent, berry-like, hard, shiny, metallic blue.

Worldwide: 26 species in the Old World tropics with 2 in Australia and 1 in Panama

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
