Description of the genus

Prostrate succulent perennial herbs, confined to coastal sand dunes. Stems flattened and deeply grooved on one face, far-creeping and rooting at the nodes. Leaves sessile, decussate, densely imbricate on short shoots. Stipules with 1-few short lobes.Flowers solitary, axillary, bisexual, heterostylous. Corolla 4-lobed. Ovary 2-locular; ovule 1 per loculus. Fruit indehiscent, 1-2-seeded.

Worldwide: 2 species in Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape)

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
