Description of the genus

Trees evergreen, branchlet pith usually with vascular strands. Leaves alternate, odd-pinnate, stipulate or ex-stipulate. Inflorescence panicles, terminal or axillary. Flowers calyx cupular or campanulate. Petals 3 imbricate below of valvate, usually exceeding the calyx. Fruit drupe, usually ellipsoid. Seeds often with cotyledons partite.

Worldwide: 75 species in tropical Africa, Asia to Pacific Islands.
