Description of the genus

Climbers or scandent shrubs, woody; sometimes trees. Stipules small and caduceus. Leaves imparipinnate, leaflets opposite. Inflorescence racemes or panicles, axillary and terminal; bracts and bracteoles small. Calyx cupulate and subtruncate; corolla white, pink or purple, much-exserted; wing adhering to keel petal. Fruit oblong to strap-shaped, flat, indehiscent; upper or both sutures winged. Seeds reniform or orbicular.

Worldwide: 70 species in the tropics.
