Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves abruptly bipinnate. Inflorescence a paniculate or racemoid thyrse. Flowers actinomorphic. Sepals 5, petaloid, free almost to the base; petals 5, small, unguiculate, each with 2 linear scales at the base formed by infolding of the margin. Fruit baccate, usually 1–2-locular and 1–2 seeded (by abortion). Seed with a thin arillode.

Worldwide: Six species in Madagascar and neighbouring islands.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
