Description of the genus

Tendrillous climber or sparsely-branched shrub, glabrous. Leaves coriaceous with the nerves prominent on both faces. Flowers solitary or in axillary fascicles. Receptacle very short. Sepals 3–4. Petals 2–4, similar to the sepals but smaller. Fruit a capsule oblong, 3–4-valved, with a thin woody pericarp. Seeds enveloped by a campanulate aril.

Worldwide: One species in east tropical Africa.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
