Description of the genus

Epiphytic, lithophytic or terrestrial herbs, usually with pseudobulbs. Leaves 1-several, mostly broad, plicate and thin-textured. Inflorescence racemose, arising from the apex of the pseudobulb. Flowers resupinate, green, yellow or purplish. Sepals and petals spreading or reflexed. Lip simple, usually much larger than the sepals and petals, 2-3-lobed. Pollinia 4, in 2 pairs.

Worldwide: 350 species, cosmopolitan

Mozambique: 3 taxa.
