Description of the genus

Liane. Leaves simple, not peltate. Male and female inflorescences of few-flowered corymbose panicles. Male flowers: sepals 9-24, the 3-12 outer bract-like, ± linear to ovate; central 3-6 spathulate or similar to outer; inner ovate-elliptic, much larger than others; petals 3-6; stamens 9-18, united into a conical synandrium. Female flowers: carpels 3-6. Fruit a smooth drupe. Seeds without endosperm.

Worldwide: 6 species in tropical Africa and Madagascar

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
