Description of the genus

Tree to 25 m tall, evergreen or semi-deciduous; Unarmed tree. Leaves paripinnate; leaflets sessile, opposite, 10-18 pairs. Flowers in lax racemes. Bracteoles 2. Sepals 4. Petals: upper 3 well-developed; lower 2, minute. Fertile stamens 3. Pods indehiscent; fruit irregularly cylindrical, seeds 1-10 embedded in acid pulp.

Derivation of name: From Arabic: tamr (a date) and hindi (Indian)

Worldwide: 1 species in the Old World tropics
