Description of the genus

Unarmed shrubs or trees. Stipules small, not spiny. Leaves alternate or opposite to subopposite, petiolate, entire, not 3-veined from the base. Cymes axillary. Flowers bisexual, 5-merous. Sepals and petals 5. Disk cup-shaped or swollen and enveloping the ovary. Ovary superior, 2-locular; ovules 1 in each loculus. Fruit a fleshy drupe. Seeds 2.

Worldwide: c. 12 species occurring in Africa, E Asia and W North America

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
