Description of the genus

Shrubs or trees, somewhat scandent, bearing prickles in leaf axils. Leaves opposite or subopposite, pinnately nerved. Inflorescence an axillary fascicle or umbel.Flowers bisexual. Sepals 5. Petals 5, unguiculate, emarginate. Ovary superior. Fruit a fleshy drupe.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical S America and southern Africa

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
