Description of the genus

Ericoid shrubs. Branchlets hairy when young. Leaves opposite and decussate, concave, woolly-hairy within. Inflorescences consisting (in ours) of clusters of flowers terminating short branchlets. Flowers 4-merous, bisexual, yellowish, pinkish or red. Calyx-tube flask-shaped, inflated at base; lobes 4. Petals 0. Stamens 8. Ovary 1-locular. Fruit dry (in ours).

Worldwide: c. 15 species in South Africa, with one (montana) extending to Angola and Zimbabwe

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
