Description:
Parasitic shrub. Leaves opposite, subsessile, leathery, hairless, grey-green to blue-green, ovate, with 3-9 pairs of spreading veins, cordate at the base, basal lobes sometimes clasping the branches. Flowers in axillary c. 4-flowered clusters; corolla tube 3-4 cm long, dull red; lobes green; heads of buds, darkening, before opening, velvety to woolly hairy. Fruit an ellipsoid berry, c. 8 × 7 mm, finely velvety, crowned with the persistent calyx.

Habitat: Mostly in riverine forest, marginally into Brachystegia woodland.
Altitude range: 1000 - 2200 m
Flowering time:Mar - Nov
Worldwide distribution: Zambia, Angola, southern DRC, southern Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and northern Zimbabwe.
