Description:
Prostrate, ascending or rarely erect perennial herb, with densely hairy stems up to c. 50 cm long, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves 1–3-foliolate, the lower ones often mostly 1-foliolate but sometimes all 3-foliolate; leaflets 4–13 cm long, terminal one elliptic to round ovate or lanceolate, the laterals more obliquely oblong-elliptic, rounded to more or less distinctly cordate at the base, sparsely hairy above, more densely so beneath, sometimes discolorous; petiole mostly up to 7 mm long, rarely longer; rhachis 1–2.3 mm long; stipules lanceolate, up to 23 mm long, densely hairy. Inflorescences mostly 2–5.5 cm long; peduncle 3–20 cm long, hairy as on stems; pedicels 1 mm long. Flowers deflexed; calyx pilose, tube 3.5–5 mm long, lobes triangular to triangular-lanceolate, 3-7.5 mm long. Corolla yellow and brown or red with tip of the keel very densely gland-dotted. Pods oblong-elliptic, c. 1.7 cm long, turning blackish.

Habitat: In open woodland and grassland, often on black soil.
