Description:
Erect annual herb, up to c. 30 cm tall. Branches spreading with short, curved, somewhat appressed hairs. Leaves opposite, linear-lanceolate, up to c. 4 cm long, assymmetrically rounded at the base, usually hairless above when mature, with scattered apressed hairs beneath; margin entire; petiole up to 2 mm long; stipules linear, 1-2 mm long, entire. Flowers in terminal and axillary, few-flowered clusters, with 4 white or pink, petal-like appendages. Capsule exserted on a reflexed pedicel, 3-lobed, c. 2.2 × 2.4 mm, densely pubescent with short, curved appressed hairs.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: lupatensis: from Lupata in Mozambique, where the type specimen was found.
Habitat: In open woodland and wooded grassland, on sandy clay soils.
Altitude range: 300 - 1025 m

Worldwide distribution: Southeast Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
