Status: Native
Description:
Much-branched small shrub, up to 3 m but often less than 2 m tall. Branches covered in silky hairs. Leaves very broadly ovate-elliptic to almost round, up to 12 cm long, 3-veined from the base, thickly textured, green and hairy above with sunken veins, much paler below, covered in greyish-white or cream-coloured hairs; base slightly cordate at the base; apex rounded to slightly nothched; margin toothed. Flowers in leaf-opposed clusters, yellow, c 1.5 cm in diameter. Fruit shallowly 4-lobed, c 1.5 cm in diameter, silky hairy.
Notes: This species is very similar to Grewia villosa. It differs in having many long, almost unbranched branches arising directly from the woody rootstock; more flowers per inflorescences, which are smaller than in G. villosa and linear-filiform stipules (ovate to obovate in G. villosa). It generally occurs in areas with somewhat higher rainfall than G. villosa.
