Perennial herb with erect, ascending or scrambling stems, up to 100 cm tall. Leaves opposite, more or less narrowly ovate or elliptic, 1-7 cm, greyish pubescent, sometimes only on the midrib and larger veins; margin entire. Flowers singly or in 2-3-flowered clusters, together forming more or less dense terminal (rarely also axillary) spike-like inflorescences, 1-15 cm long. Rhachis, bracts and calyces covered with whitish or yellowish short and long hairs and stalked glands. Corolla 2-lipped, pale to deep mauve or pink, with purple lines on the lower lip; tube 4-8 mm long, often with stalked glands on the basal part; lower lip spreading, 4-10 mm long. Capsule up to 6-9.5 mm long, puberulous. |
