Description:
Perennial herb with annual stems. It may grow into a subshrub up to 1 m but often the stems are decumbent. It is distinguished from subsp. wildii by the narrower, near linear leaves which are distinctly revolute.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: bainesii: after Thomas Baines (1820-75), artist and naturalist
