Description:
Many-stemmed, scrambling, strongly aromatic perennial herb, often woody near the base. Stems straggling or climbing, up to 2 m long, with almost continuous narrow wings, gland-dotted, greyish-white felted, especially when young, often becoming hairless when older. Leaves narrowly lanceeolate, up to 12 cm long, densely covered with whitish felt-like hairs, especially when young, gland-dotted beneath; base decurrent into the wings on the stems; margin strongly rolled under. Capitula in dense terminal corymbose heads, up 12 cm in diameter. Involucral bracts 2-3-seriate, pale brownish, tipped yellow, lanceolate, up to 2.5 mm long. Florets yellow.

Habitat: In grassland, often in rocky places, along forest margins, in disturbed places and as a weed of cultivation.

Worldwide distribution: Nigeria, Cameroon, DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Also in Yemen.
