Description:
Robust perennial herb, up to 1.5 m. Leaves in a basal tuft, linear-lanceolate, usually upright. Inflorescence on a wiry, branched peduncle. Flowers large, tepals white with a dark greenish-brown centre line, spreading; stamens in a distinct asymmetrical 4+2 arrangement; anthers long, curved and pale yellow.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: galpinii: after E.E. Galpin (1858-1941), a botanical collector
Habitat: In rocky places in montane grassland and at the margins of forest.
