Description:
See subsp cucullata for general description. This subspecies, replacing subsp. cucullata in the Eastern border areas from Vumba to the Chimanimani Mts, can be distinguished by the smaller flowers and shorter corona lobes but it mainly differs in having papillae covering most of the cavity of the corona lobes, while in subsp. cucullata these are restricted to a narrow band at the base of the lobe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: cucullata: hooded, referring to the outer corona lobes.

Altitude range: 1000 - 2400 m

Worldwide distribution: from Vumba to Chimanimani Mts, Zimbabwe and nearby areas in Mozambique.
