Description:
Decumbent or ascending annual herb, branching from the base. Branches up to c. 30 cm long, ribbed, covered with long spreading hairs. Leaves alternate, sessile, up to c. 9 cm long, oblong in outline, deeply pinnatifid with lobes up to 2 cm long, mucronate at the apex, with long spreading hairs on both surfaces; margin entire or with 1-2 teeth. Capitula solitary, terminal, c. 8 mm in diameter, hemispheric. Involucral bracts c. 2-seriate, narrowly ovate. Ray-florets, white or pale blue, c. 5 mm long; disk-florets numerous, yellow.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: hispida: rough with stiff hairs (hispid)
Habitat: In black soils, in flat river valleys, estuaries and lagoons, mainly in coastal areas.
