Description:
Perennial herb, suckering to form large colonies, stemless or with a very short thick stem. Leaves in a compact rosette; upper leaf surface with oblong spots in conspicuous transverse bands; lower leaf surface usually without spots. Inflorescence erect. Peduncle 3-8 branched. Racemes cylindric, 10-20 cm long, laxly-flowered; pedicels 8-14 mm, as long as or slightly longer than the bracts. Perianth dull red, bulbous at the base abruptly constricted above the ovary.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: parvibracteata: referring to the small bracts (which in this species are in fact not particularly small).
