Description:
Robust perennial herb, growing from a vertical, subcylindric to globose tuber, up to 5 cm in diameter. Leaf solitary with an erect petiole 1-2 m tall, rarely taller, covered with creamish elongated spots and greenish-cream downward pointing prickles; leafblade 1.2-1.8 m wide, dark glossy green, trisect when mature; primary divisions divideddichotomously or pinnately; secondary divisions irregularly pinnatifid; ultimate segments apically truncate or bifid. Inflorescence on a peduncle 30-90 cm long, armed with prickles. Spathe c. 9 × 2 cm, broadly ovate. Spadix up to 5 × 1 cm, cylindric, much shorter than the Spathe. Male zone and female zone each covering about half the length of the spadix; male flowers much smaller than female flowers. Berries c. 2.7 × 1.6 cm, ellipsoid.
Notes: The image of the plant in habit is of an exceptionally tall specimen.

Habitat: Understorey of dense deciduous forest and Brachystegia woodland.
