Description:
Prostrate, ascending to erect, annual or perennial herb, up to 40 cm tall, growing from a taproot. Stems much-branched, yellowish-green, angular, ribbed, sparsely or densely whitish strigose hairy. Leaves 1-3-foliolate; terminal leaflet linear-lanceolate, 1-6 cm long, appressed strigose hairy on both surfaces; lateral leaflets, if present usually smaller; petiole 3-16 mm long; rhachis prolonged beyond lateral leaflets 1-8 mm. Stipules linear-lanceolate, 3-7 mm long, more or less erect. Raceme 2-5 cm long, including peduncle. Corolla 4-4.5 mm long, orange-carmine to red, whitish strigose on the back of the standard. Pods reflexed, curved, flat with conspicuous raised veining, 7-22 mm long, densely spreading strigose; style base forming an erect beak.

Habitat: Open sandy areas in woodland, grassland, bushveld and thorn scrub, along roadsides or in seasonally inundated areas.
