Description:
Scrambling shrub or small tree. Leaves paripinnate with 3-9 pairs of leaflets, rhachis often narrowly winged and extending into a small point, slightly beyond the ultimate pair of leaflets; leaflets oblong-elliptic, up to 8 × 3 cm long, hairless, apex rounded or notched; margins entire, often wavy. The bottom leaflets start so close to the base of the rhachis that they resemble large stipules. Flowers in terminal, large, branched, catkin-like racemes, white. Fruit spherical to ovoid, c. 1.4 cm in diameter, fleshy, yellow.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: xanthocarpa: with yellow fruit.
Habitat: In riverine thickets, mixed woodland and on rocky koppies.
