Description:
Stout annual herb to 1 m. Stems simple or branching near the base; branches ± erect. Leaves up to 8 × 0.4-0.8 cm, narrowly oblong or oblong-lanceolate, hairless or glandular, and green above, white-tomentose beneath; base ± cordate-amplexicaul; margin undulate. Inflorescence a large terminal corymbose panicle; capitula borne in dense apical, spherical clusters. Involucres up to 4 mm in diameter; phyllaries in 4 rows; outer pale greenish-yellow; inner with a membranous appendage. Outer female florets very numerous, cylindric, whitish. Bisexual disk florets yellowish. Achenes ellipsoid, minutely mamillate. Pappus of numerous soft bristles.

Habitat: A plant of moist grasslands, forest edges and vleis. Also a weed of disturbed land and roadsides.
