Description:
Much-branched shrubby herb, up to 1.5 m tall. Stems and branches shortly hairy, somewhat brittle. Leaves alternate, sessile, 3-8 cm long, 2-pinnatifid with 4-5 primary lobes on each side, green above, paler beneath, shortly hairy on both surfaces; base running down, auriculate with small dentate ears. Capitula 3-10 forming a lax terminal inflorescence. Involucral bracts 13-21, 1-seriate, linear-lanceolate, 4-5.5 mm long, green with membranous margins. Florets yellow; rays (5)-8; disk-florets 40-60. Pappus with numerous bristles, erect, 3-4 mm long, white with minute hooks.
Notes: This species has only been described fairly recently (1999) and had only been recorded from the Zimbabwe side of the Chimanimani Mts until now.
Derivation of specific name: aetfatensis: after the Association pour l'Etude Taxonomique de la Flore d'Afrique Tropicale (AETFAT). The type specimen was found during its 15th Congres, which was held in Harare, February 1997.
Habitat: Among quartzite rocks in montane grassland
Altitude range: 1400 - 2400 m
