Description:
Small tree up to 7m. Leaves with 3 pairs of leaflets and a terminal leaflet; lower leaflets ovate, upper ones elliptic; terminal leaflet usually largest, up to 11 × 7 cm; midrib prominent below with 8-10 pairs of lateral veins, not quite reaching the margin; apex with a hair-like tip. Flowers in terminal panicles, purple-blue. Pod oblanceolate, flattened, up to 12 cm long, rusty brown, velvety.
Notes: Fairly widespread in Mozambique but threatened by over-exploitation for local construction.
