Description:
Shrub or small tree, 1-5(-8) m tall. Spines present, 1-4 cm long, borne above short lateral branches. Leaves: lamina 3-5 × 1.5-4.5 cm, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, rounded at apex, usually glabrous; domatia present. Inflorescences many-flowered, corymbose cymes; peduncles 8-35 mm long. Calyx lobes triangular, up to 1 mm, acute. Corolla creamy-white; tube with dense fine hairs at throat. Fruit orange, 10-15 mm long, 1-3-seeded, varying in shape with number of mature seeds.

Habitat: In thicket and coastal forest; also in deciduous woodland on rocky slopes.
