Frequency: Local and rare.
Status: Native
Description:
Small, multi-stemmed shrub armed with forked, sometimes twice-forked spines. Older branches with whitish flaking bark. Leaves, opposite, ovate, up to 5 cm long, somewhat leathery, almost hairless. Flowers solitary between the spines, white, c 3.5 cm in diameter. Fruits subglobose, 1.5 cm long, red when ripe, edible.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: praetermissa: unnoticed, referring to the very recent (1981) description of this species.
Habitat: On sandy soil in open woodland or in the understory of dune forest.
Altitude range: Up to 350 m
Flowering time:Oct - Mar
Worldwide distribution: Central and southern Mozambique only.
Mozambique distribution: Z,MS,GI
