Description:
Large shrub or small tree. Leaves narrowly to broadly elliptic, ovate or obovate, up to 21 × 11 cm, hairless except when very young. Flower heads terminal, 10-17 cm in diameter. Bracts pale creamy-white to brown, often with a pink tip, covered with soft appressed hairs, flowers creamy-white; perianth base and claw hairy, limb hairless.
Notes: Note: this species may be confused in the field with P. angolensis var. divaricata. That species, however, has the perianth claw hairless and the limb hairy, and is not normally found in montane grassland.

Habitat: Occurring in montane grassland, sometimes in miombo woodland.
