Description:
Terrestrial herb with separate sterile and fertile shoot; sterile shoot leaves erect, up to 30 x 2 cm; fertile shoot leaves imbricate, 3-8 cm; inflorescence lax, floral bracts reaching up to the flowers; flowers large, bright red.
Notes: Differs from subsp. erubescens in the larger flowers and dorsal sepal more than 3 cm long.
