Description:
Succulent perennial herb. Stems fleshy, up to 20 cm long, simple or branched from the base, decumbent to sub-erect, green, 4-ribbed with opposite, fleshy soft, spine-like leaves. Flowers arising from near the base lying flat on the ground, star-shaped, corolla lobes spreading, fleshy maroon with cream to golden-yellow streaks; corona raised; outer lobes dark purple-black; inner lobes golden-yellow with maroon-red markings, pointing inward. Fruit in paired follicles.

Habitat: In shade of bushes in Mopane and Hyphaene dominated woodland, often in almost bare slightly sodic patches.
Altitude range: 20 - 200 m

Worldwide distribution: Restricted to the Sofala Province, Central Mozambique.
