Description:
Tree 8-30(35) m. high. Young branchlets glabrous or puberulous. Leaves with pinnae opposite, in 4-11 pairs; leaflets 10-18 or more pairs, oblong, rounded at apex, asymmetrically rounded or subtruncate at the base. Peduncles up to 50 cm long; flowers red, in dense, electric light bulb-shaped inflorescences. Pods leathery.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: filicoidea: fern-like, referring to the large bipinnate leaves.
Habitat: Gallery forest near rivers and lakes.
Altitude range: 130 - 900 m
Flowering time:Oct - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia.
Mozambique distribution: N,Z
