Description:
Medium to large evergreen tree. Leaves imparipinnate with 5-7 alternate leaflets; leaflets dark green, leathery, almost without hairs, tapering at the apex. Petiole with a distinct swelling. Flowers in compact racemes, white, greenish in the centre, very showy when in full flower. Pods flat, creamy-grey, splitting explosively to eject red-brown seeds.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: brevicaudata: short-tailed
Habitat: In montane evergreen forest, often as one of the dominant species.
Altitude range: 850 - 1800 m
Flowering time:Sep - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
