Description of the genus
Trees. Leaves very large (often c. 1 m), 2-pinnate. Inflorescence composed of terminal panicles. Flowers ± actinomorphic, showy (in ours), yellow. Stamens 10. Fruit a 1-seeded flattened pod.
Derivation of name: from Greek: schizo meaning split and lobos meaning a pod, referring to the outer cover of the pod splitting away from the thin interior membrane
