Description of the genus

Shrubs, glabrous, fragrant; old stems spinescent. Leaves elliptic, ovate or obovate, base narrowed into a short petiole, apex acute, obtuse or sub-acuminate. Inflorescence panicles, terminal. Flowers fragrant, 4-merous, white or yellowish-white; hypanthium cupular, much shorter than calyx, peltate in fruit; epicalyx lacking; petals corrugate, obovate, obtuse; sepals ovate. Fruit capsule, globose, irregularly dehiscent. Seeds pyramidal.

Worldwide: Species 1 in Africa and Asia.

Mozambique: 1 cultivated taxon.
