Description of the genus

Unarmed trees; leaves 2-pinnate; flowers in large compact heads shaped like light bulbs on lengths of flex, adapted for pollination by bats; pods strap shaped.

Worldwide: A genus of about 30 species, 3 in mainland Africa, 16 in America.

Mozambique: 2 cultivated taxa.
