Description:	Woody shrub or small tree, to 4 m tall. Branching alternate (not in threes) with spine-tipped branchlets. Leaves alternate or new growth, borne in clusters on older growth; petiole to 5 mm; lamina to 4.5 × 1.5 cm, obovate, entire, glabrous; base cuneate; apex rounded or emarginate. Inflorescences of 2-5-flowered terminal umbels. Cyathia with funnel- to cup-shaped involucres; glands 5, c. 2.5 mm in diameter, saucer-shaped, yellow. Capsule obtusely 3-lobed, pubescent. Seeds subglobose, smooth, reddish-brown.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name:	cuneata: wedge-shaped, the narrower end at the base; referring to the leaves.

Worldwide distribution:	From the Arabian Peninsula southwards through Sudan, Ethiopia and coastal regions of Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania; cultivated and sometimes escaping in Mozambique
