Trees, shrubs or lianes. Leaves digitate with long petioles. Inflorescence of compound umbels, arranged in a raceme or panicle. Petals and sepals 5-10, equal in number. Styles 2 (umbellifera) or 5-8 (goetzenii). Fruit subspherical to ovoid. Derivation of name: after Johann Peter Ernst Scheffler, an 18th century Polish botanist and physician born in 1739. Worldwide: c. 650 species in tropical and warm regions Mozambique: 2 taxa. |
