Description of the genus
Creeping perennials, rooting at the nodes. Leaves on
slender petioles, sometimes peltate. Inflorescence a simple umbel (sometimes ±
capitate) or an interrupted spike. Flowers white to greenish-yellow; calyx
teeth minute; stylopodium depressed. Fruit strongly laterally flattened;
carpophore 0. Vittae 0 to well-developed. Worldwide: c. 130 species, cosmopolitan Mozambique: 4 taxa. |
