Description of the genus

Shrubs and trees. Leaves coriaceous, characteristically sericeous on the lower surface with dense appressed indumentum; lateral veins close together, straight and parallel, diverging at wide angle from the mdrib. Calyx in 1 whorl of 5 sepals. Corolla of 5 unlobed petals, joined in a tube at the base. Fruit 1-seeded berry.

Worldwide: 5-10 species in tropical Africa

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
