Description of the genus

Trees and shrubs. Leaves opposite, simple or 1-pinnate. Domatia 0. Inflorescences cymose. Flowers heterostylous, with "pin" and "thrum" forms, scented. Corolla pale cream or pink, salver-shaped; lobes 5-7, imbricate, each with a conspicuous patch of swollen brownish or purplish hairs at the base. Fruit a 2-valved, woody capsule dehiscing loculicidally. Seeds winged.

Worldwide: 10 species, occurring in the tropics

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
