Sepals (4or)5 free, imbricate, upper largest; corolla tubular, limb patent, conspicuously or obscurely 2-lipped, lower lip tri-lobed, upper lip bi-lobed. Fruit capsules, ovoid or globose, 2-grooved, 4-valved. Seeds numerous, minute.

Worldwide: 55 species in the tropics and sub-tropics, mainly in America.
