Description of the genus

Small shrubs. Stipules with 3-5 linear setae. Leaves opposite or 3-nate. Flowers bisexual, dimorphic in dense few-many-flowered terminal corymbose inflorescences. Calyx: tube narrowly obconic; limb excentrically elliptic. Corolla: tube narrowly cylindric; lobes 4-5 oblong or ovate; throat densely hairy. Ovary 2-3-locular, each loculus with c.4-6 ovules. Fruit indehiscent, obconic, sometimes curved, of bony texture, strongly ribbed, the ribs running into the accrescent calyx, 1-2-seeded.

Worldwide: 10 species in tropical Africa, Socotra and Madagascar

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
