Description of the genus

Inflorescence of paired or digitate racemes; racemes with imbricate, sessile or subsessile spikelets. Spikelets several-flowered, laterally compressed, disarticulating between the florets or several florets falling together, glabrous; glumes unequal, shorter than the lemmas; lemmas keeled, coriaceous, acute at the apex. Caryopsis elliptic, smooth, the pericarp free.

Worldwide: One species in coastal regions of East Africa, Madagascar and Indian Ocean Islands.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
