Carpodiptera Griseb.

Description of the genus

Small trees. Leaves petiolate. Stipules present. Flowers sometimes unisexual, in axillary pedunculate cymes. Sepals connate into a 2-3-lobed campanulate calyx. Petals 5, white (in ours), narrowed at the base, without glands. Stamens many. Ovary 2-locular, with 1(-2) pendulous ovules per loculus. Fruit a 2-valved capsule with very broad wings. Seed usually 1, usually hairy at the apex.

Worldwide: 1 species in Africa; 7 in tropical America

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
